Setting — Upriver to starboard, past the two large Fairhaven Shipyard facilities, this Coast Guard Auxiliary marina is marked by a big "Gas" sign above a small white dockhouse and a tree of stern-to slips branching off from a single main pier. Views are of the Route 6 bridge and New Bedford commercial shore.

Marina Notes — Home to USCG Auxillary Flotilla 1N65, managed independently by ARSBC, Inc. No mechanical services or parts -- just stern-to docks (no finger piers!), good gas prices, and friendly, helpful, boating savvy seasonals - just ask. Camaraderie translates into good security. Dry storage in winter. Rafting allowed where practical. Diesel at N.B. fishermen's coop or at Fairhaven Shipyard. Bathhouse: Basic, formica in C.G. Aux headquarters. Note: Launch service & moorings available from Whaling City, Capt. Jeff Pontiff 984-4979. Dockage also next door at Seaport Inn & Marina (former Holiday Inn) for boats to 70 ft.

Notable — Flotilla 1N65 of the Coat Guard Auxillary maintains the marina and clubhouse for its members and guests - and to educate the public about boating; fellow Coast Guard Auxiliary members will be greeted warmly. Their onsite bar is open on weekends. Visible from the docks, the architecurally significant public buildings poke above the Fairhaven skyline. Native Henry Huttleston Rogers made millions with Standard Oil and the Virginia Railway and gave back to his hometown by erecting magnificent public buildings (1890-1908) influenced by European architecture. Among his gifts were a luxurious high school, Town Hall, Taber Masonic lodge, Unitarian Church, Tabitha Inn, Millicent Library, and a "modern" water-and-sewer system - all in use today. Take the free Visitor's Center tour (979-4085) or walk the area with brochure in hand. Busy, commercial Huttleston Avenue (aka Route 6) is conveniently just two blocks.
