Setting — The second of three closely-set marinas on the northern shore of Bohemia River, Bohemia Vista Yacht Basin is basically a boatyard with docks. Now in the throes of a major makeover, it will soon offer boaters a more upscale experience with a new pool and bathhouse. Because this is a wide stretch of the river, views across the water are fairly distant and bucolic. Houses can be seen tucked among the trees, but the overall feeling is still quite rural.

Marina Notes — A family-owned and family-oriented marina, founded in 1966 by Augustice Brice Moore and purchased by Kurt and Jody Sarac of Elkton in 2004. Two main piers lie perpendicular to the shore, with slips on either side. *The mooring field, right off the basin, can only manage boats under 30 feet (28-30 ft. $1120/season). A carved hula maiden guards the gazebo that leads to the dinghy dock. A new bulkhead has just been installed and approvals are in the works for a 490 x 6-ft. pier which will host 27 more slips with 3x15-foot long piers. A petition for a fuel dock is also pending. Current heads are well-mantained cinderblock: 2 showers, 3 stalls, 2 sinks each. A new bathhouse is anticipated as part of the renovation.

Notable — The original office building has been torn down and is being replaced by a pool and patio complex, which should open in April '06. The tan building sitting at the back of the property - on a short rise overlooking a little pond - was originally designed to be the much-anticipated Barnacle Restaurant, but has been converted into a single-family rental home. It seems that the pond is home to a rare species of endangered turtles. As a result, construction permits for the restaurant were revoked and the marina has created a sanctuary for these endangered Bogie Turtles.
