Setting — Pirate's Cove is nestled in the nearly land-locked inner harbor accessed through a narrow passage in the southwest corner of Fisher Island's West Harbor. It maintains five transient moorings in the main harbor -- both locations are very pretty.
Marina Notes — This is the only boat yard on the island. A family operation, begun in 1970, with on-site management and clear hands-on oversight. The inner harbor is the primary hurricane hole for the island. There's a dinghy dock on-site, but, because it's a bit far from the "village", many people prefer to land their dinghies at the Fisher's Island Yacht Club. A small ships' store can meet most basic needs. And a very active and well-supplied bait and tackle shop is also on the premises.
Notable — Fishers Island is exceedingly private -- the whole eastern end is gated. The western end offers some interesting strolling destinations -- and a circumnavigation of the island by boat promises some truly spectacular house-browsing. In the village, there are very limited amenities: Pequot Inn consists of 7 recently renovated rooms, each with private bath (two with views of West Harbor). The Pequot Restaurant offers snacks and light fare -- pizza, hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, burgers, wings and salads -- plus a remarkable selection of international beers. There's also a small dinner menu Mon-Fri 5-10pm, Sat & Sun 12:30-10pm. Pizza from 5-9:30pm -- call ahead for quick take-out (788-7247) -- and breakfast at 1am on Sat night/Sun morning. Entertainment Thu-Sat 10:30pm 'til closing. Billiards, too. Toppers has ice cream, the Picket Fence gifts, and the News Cafe offers light breakfast and lunch.
