Setting — The third marina on quiet Urbanna Creek, UYC's whitewashed 2-story building has a silver metal roof topped by a red sign. An extensive network of open and covered docks stretches along the creek, reaching far into the waterway near the bridge. Picnic tables sit on a dockside grassy plot, and dry storage occupies the area in front of the office. In the main boat house, a rustic boaters' lounge, furnished with a comfortable rattan set, evokes a fishing lodge feel.

Marina Notes — Current owner at the helm since 1989. UYC is the largest facility in Urbanna: it begins with one set of covered sheds for smaller boats, followed by a long pier with dockage on both sides, another stretch of pier with bulkhead dockage, another large pier with slips on both sides, then an L-shaped covered boathouse for larger yachts, and then, outboard of that, a covered boathouse has a pier with slips on either side. Power is on the pilings. Extensive onsite repair services. Scott Sail Makers is also on-site. Two bathhouses: one has tiled showers with dressing rooms and sinks set in a tiled vanity. In the boathouse, next to the boaters' lounge, is another set of heads and with fiberglass shower stalls.

Notable — The charming village of Urbanna, with many 18th C. buildings, begins four blocks up the hill. Along the way are two hairdressers and Colonial Pizza - which overlooks the marina. With each visit Urbanna becomes more delightful and interesting. The nearby Visitors' Center in the restored Old Tobacco Warehouse has a fascinating 16-site walking tour. Many of the unique antique shops, gift, clothing and specialty shops are housed in period buildings, as well. Six eateries offer a wide range of options. The famous Oyster Festival is the first weekend in November.
